OVW 12.8.07/12.22.08/1.12.08

I watched three episodes of OVW from December and January. I was impressed. I know it isn’t awesome television but there are some good characters and decent wrestling. And it’s simple wrestling. I really liked Colt Cabana. I really liked Timmy Baltimore announcing. I did not like Katie Lea. I like James Curtis. I didn’t get to see Matt Sydal wrestle. I don’t know WHAT to think about Atlas DaBone. I’d have to say I don’t like him as of this moment. Maybe with a new gimmick.

It was announced last weel OVW ws no longer associated with the WWE as a developmental talent and all the talent was moved down to Florida. A bunch of guys were released. Too bad. I enjoyed listening to Dean Hill and to a lesser extent, Kenny Bolin.

I thought if nothing else, this was just slightly below TNA iMpact and better then ECW.

December 7, 2005–Ohio Valley Wrestling TV Taping in Louisville, Kentucky: El Mondo b Russell Simpson in a dark match, Brent Albright b Doug Basham, C.M. Punk b Da Beast to retain the Television title, Ken Doane b Seth Skyfire, The Boogeyman (Wearing a Santa hat and eating some Christmas worms) b Robbie Dawber in a Tables match, Chris Cage & Matt Capotelli b Nick Nemeth & Paul Burchill in a dark match, The Dicks b The Highlanders and The Riggs Brothers in a 3-WAY..

The matches in BOLD are what was shown on TV. Punk makes Da Beast tap out very quickly in this match, which made sense to me. Da Beast is a big guy and LOOKS to have a little more confidence then Lashley.

Have to admit, watching OVW for a little while now, they have some great youth in their “farm system”.

# December 14, 2005–Ohio Valley Wrestling TV Taping in Louisville, Kentucky: Seth Skyfire & Chet the Jet b Osama Rodriguez Alejandro & Roberto Dawber to retain the Tag Team titles (The Boogeyman appeared from under the ring and destroyed Dawber), C.M. Punk vs Brent Albright ended in a 30:00 time limit draw (Albright asked for 5:00 and got into it with Punk and made him submit but Punk said he never accepted the 5:00, so he retained the TV title), Johnny Jeter & Mark Henry vs Chris Cage & Matt Cappotelli ended in a No Contest when Chris Cage turned on Cappotelli…. Show ended with a Mark Henry confrontation with the Boogeyman.. Deuce Shade b Jack Bull in a dark match, El Mondo (Mike Mondo doing a Lucha gimmick) b Roadkill in a dark match, The Riggs Brothers & Kasey James b The Highlanders & Da Beast in a dark match..

#1 Chet the Jet and Seth Skyfire seem kinda bland, as opposed to their opponents for the night. Osama and Dawber have good charisma. Boogey Man strikes again. Very funny stuff.
#2 Punk vs. Albright 30: 00 minute match, was very good. It faltered somewhere in the middle with Albright, I think. and then came the dusty finish again in the end. It’s a good gimmick they have going with CM Punk and his “You got punked” tag line. His feud with Albright is solid. This was touted by someone as early MOTYC, I think by Dave Meltzer. It CAN figure in somewhere in the top ten so far. Too bad their three-way with Doane doesn’t count, it would be a clear top three.
#3 Johnny Jeter & Mark Henry vs Chris Cage & Matt Cappotelli ended in a No Contest when Chris Cage turned on Cappotelli. No match to see here, right? Wait. The subsequent run in of a bunch of people to get beat down, not even the Boogey Man invulnerable to the crushing power of Mark Henry, and Jeter/Cage/and Henry are left with a pile of bodies in the ring. Great segment. Too bad it is OVW and means nothing.
