12. Necro Butcher Interview

Boy, there was alot of blood in that Younger/Brain Damage match. The blood was literally squirting out of BD’s forehead. The Ruckus vs. Gauge match was a total abortion and it didn’t seem they knew wtf they were doing. Vordell Walker on the mic, Ricochet, Pinkie Sanchez’ entrance, and two of my favorites, Sexxy Eddy and LuFisto, were the bright spots on an otherwise bland and boring and really bad show. Necro Butcher teaming up with Nicky Benz and turning heel was definitely good, like to see where this goes… oh! A death match! Wow.

9. Jay & Mark Briscoe (c) vs. Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black: ROH World Tag Team Titles ***3/4

Heck of show. Yes, not one HELL of a show, just one heck of a show. I felt various things throughout watching. Like, “Wow, this is really looking indy-tastic,” (That isn’t a good thing). Best thing on it were Chris Hero’s antics and Nigel McGuiness’ promo after taking a massive beating the night before. All really good matches but I think it paled in comparison to the past events they’ve had. I think their roster is suddenly, or not so suddenly, depleted. Good looking out for a guy like Tyler Black and shit, but it’s still not even on the level of TNA, if TNA wanted to be serious.

Samoa Joe & Christian Cage & Kevin Nash b Kurt Angle & AJ Styles & Tomko **1/2

Yes, these are spoilers since I watched this about three weeks ago and decided to post it finally. Other then the Fish Market Street Fight and the opener I didn’t really like this show that much. That 3 way tag team opener was great and it’s sad they don’t push all of those teams more. Whatever, TNAis just bringing the bad booking here in 2008.

Wrestling Radio Report: IYH, Minority Report, LAW

Friday Night Fever 3/7/08
LAW 3/16/08
Minority Report 3/3/08
Minority Report 3/17/08

Listened to all these shows over the past week and a half. I’m surprised at how much I like the Minority Report with Don Tony and Kevin castle. When I first heard the show I thought they were a couple of arrogant asses, and I still think they come off that way alot of the times, but their show is a great listen. The LAW is pretty decent but after awhile it’s sorta the same thing over and over again. The Friday Night Fever on 3/7/08 had Jack and co-host Buck doling out FNF HoF awards and it was a funny show for sure. I wanted to call in about ten times to argue about some of their picks. New Jack? A wrestling music album? Very amusing shit.

1. Vansack Acid Return Match:Shota Takahashi & Munenori Sawa vs. Naomiki Ueda & Vansack Acid **3/4

2. Sword Army vs. Axe Army:
Masato Tanaka & Tatsuhito Takaiwa vs. Tengu Kaiser & Crow Kaiser [not on my dvd copy :( ]

3. NWA Intercontinental Tag Team Title: Minoru Fujita & Takuya Sugawara (c) vs. Great Sasuke & Kesen Numajiro *1/2

4. ZERO1-MAX vs. New Japan:
Takao Omori, Kohei Sato & Osamu Namiguchi vs. Manabu Nakanishi, Koji Kanamoto & Ryusuke Taguchi ***

5. Sword Army vs. Axe Army:
Ryouji Sai & Kengo Mashimo vs. Yoshihito Sasaki & Daisuke Sekimoto ***1/2

6. International Jr. Heavyweight Title:
Ikuto Hidaka (c) vs. Masaaki Mochizuki ***

Looking back I don’t think this was as good of a card as I have seen from Z-1 so far this year. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the tag team match and subsequent punking out of Sasuke by Minoru Fujita & Takuya Sugawara. The New Japan vs. Z1 stuff is pretty good and Omori, Nakanishi, and Kanamoto all look good in getting this over. I’m totally diging the Kengo Mashimo vs. Yoshihito Sasaki, big fan of Mashimo and his bad-assness. There were some great spots and reversals and counters in the main event, and Mochizuki is a guy who I always pay attention too when he’s in there after seeing him as Kamikaze vs. Colt Cabana. No doubt Ikuto Hidaka is big dookie in Japan but I think he’s a pretty boy and I like to see him get his ass kicked.

The Legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin DVD Review

I am not a Steve Austin expert. I didn’t watch WWE religiously until after WCW died. So I don’t know if the matches on this disc, which include The Rock at Wrestlemania X-7, a really good Strap Match with Savio Vega, or Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin at Survivor Series in November 17, 1996. Nonethless, I was quite satisfied with the product and the matches. I thought there needed to be a little more inside information, more information, period, about what was going on behind the scenes. This seemed more like a joy ride through the Stone Cold Experience then a serious look at it and what effect it had on the business, on the WWE, and can there ever be another golden period like the one they had with him and The Rock on top. I’m giving this a 6 out of 10 stars, and I think if you have seen most of these matches then you’re not really missing anything. This just seemed like a collection of matches then the “legacy” of Steve Austin.

Zero-One Max 2/17/08

ZERO1-MAX, 17.02.2008
Tokyo Korakuen Hall
1,400 Fans

1. Super Dragon Wall 3rd:
Tatsuhito Takaiwa vs. Ueda Shito

Squash match for Takaiwa. I am starting to see what I have read, the guy’s dearth of talent and charisma. Deecent showing for Shito. SQUASH.

2. Mecha Mummy Try-Out Match - Mechanic vs. Robot:
Mecha Mummy vs. Shock Wave the Robot

My first look at Shock Wave the Robot. Hopefully he can have a match with someone not as highly specialized. Made for a boring match that seemed more performance art then puro. Anywho, nothing can beat Mecha-Mummy vs. Minoru Suzuki. Even TWO Mecha-Mummys 1/2*

3. Shota Takanishi, Munenori Sawa & Saki Maemura vs. KAMIKAZE, Osamu Namiguchi & Hikaru

This match must have been left off, too bad I was looking forward to it.

4. Ikuto Hidaka vs. Sandy Beach

The plodding jr. heavyweight style of Sandy Beach doesn’t leave much to the imagination. Ikuto Hidaka throws some shitty punches. Sandy has some flashes of talent and the surfer gimmick is worth a chuckle. Hidaka doesn’t impress me and I know his tag team with Fujita was highly lauded. This match has a decent finish although it does tend to drag a bit. **1/2

5. First-On Stage Nomination Match - Sword Army vs. Axe Army:
Masato Tanaka & Shinjiro Otani vs. Takuya Sugawara & Minoru Fujita

I expected more from Sugawara and especially Fujita. They seem lazy and their offense looks very indy spot-tastic. Ohtani and Tanaka show tons more ability, timing, better execution, and much more charisma then their younger counterparts. Ohtani especially was working well and had the crowd in the palm of his hand the whole time. Simple paint-by-numbers tag match. **1/4

6. ZERO1-MAX vs. New Japan:
Takao Omori & Hugohugoyumeji vs. Manabu Nakanishi & Mitsuhide Hirasawa

I dunno who Huo is but he got his ass kicke in about 3 minutes and NJPW won the match. That in turn brought out Kamikaze, one of my favorite Z-1 wrestlers. They started the match over and had a hell of a stiff match. I am not a Nakanishi fan but he played the big bruiser very well and hit some nasty head-dropping moves on Omori and Kamikaze. Hirasawa was pretty non-existent. **1/2

7. Sword Army vs. Axe Army:
Ryouji Sai & Kengo Mashimo vs. Yoshihito Sasaki & Kohei Sato

Kengo and Sasaki have some good chemistry going in their little feud here. This was a step aove the last tag match, as the participants were a little more mobile. Some stiff clotheslines vicious suplexes, but typical puro fare overall for a decent hard-hitting tag match.**1/2
