Pride “Unbreakable” 2/26/06

Mark Hunt (New Zealand) vs. Yosuke Nishijima (Japan)
Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera (Brazil) vs Kiyoshi Tamura (Japan)
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (Brazil) vs. Mark “The Hammer” Coleman (USA)
Sergei Kharitonov (Russia) vs. Alistair Overeem (Holland)
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (USA) vs. Yoon Dong Sik (South Korea)
Josh Barnett (USA) vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura (Japan)
John Olav Einemo (Norway) vs. Fabricio Werdun (Brazil)
Pedro “The Rock” Rizzo (Brazil) vs. Roman Zentsov (Russia)
Mario Sperry (Brazil) vs. “TK” Kosaka (Japan)

No doubt I am not an MMA expert but I have more then a few events under my belt. And anyone can find excitement in anything, whether they are a first timer or old hack. This event had everything one could want in an MMA PPV. I was very happy with the Overeem/Kharitonov match as well as somewhat dissapointed in the Jackson/Sik match but in a good way to some degree. But the main event was a show stealer and one of the few fights in recent memory that had me getting up out of my seat and yelling at the TV screen. Hunt/Nishijima had MOTYC written all over it until the third round. Still an awesome match that deserves some research and a second look. And there is no denying that for the moment, Nishijima is a new Japanese star in the MMA game.

WWE No Way Out 2/19/06

Gregory Helms (c) vs. The Cruiserweights: Super Crazy, Psicosis, Sho Funaki, Scotty Too Hotty, Paul London, Brian Kendrick, Nunzio & Kid Kash
A ridiculous concept that has now become some sort of staple match for WWE. End this shit now. It’s ridiculous. This match was better then the Royal Rumble match, but who cares.
JBL vs Bobby Lashley
Green as grass, Bobby Lashley.
Matt Hardy & Tatanka vs. MNM w/Melina
Oy vey! What the fuck was the point of this match? If I had paid to see this I would have been super pissed by this point in the show. And jobbing out the tag champs for no reason in this match to a washed up wrestler and a guy getting negative push makes you wonder, makes your head spin, and makes you want to completely stop watching WWE. And not once was it mwntioned that one month earlier at the Royal Rumble, MNM eliminated Tatanka, so that may be why the guy was picked by Hardy as his partner. What garbage.
Chris Benoit vs. Booker T (c) UNITED STATES TITLE
A decent match whose backstory just completely got overbooked. Solid, and what else would you expect. But the US title means nothing in Benoit’s hands. Watching this match I realize how important the territories must have been back in the day to keep people fresh.
#1 CONTENDERS MATCH Randy Orton vs. Rey Mysterio
A good match but a bad finish and a bad angle. HOWEVER, the frustration that Rey showed after the match was so good and so strong… and it meant shit when Teddy Long simply handed Rey the title shot on SD! the following week. Rey should have been out for blood. All that emotion and a great storyline wasted and Rey looks like a bitch walking into Wrestlemania.
Kurt Angle vs. The Undertaker (WORLD TITLE MATCH )
I’m not gonna drop a truckload of stars on this match for one reason. When did Taker’s triangle ever get over as a finisher? Never. So the psychology just went out the window. It was a solid match and it was actually better then that but I’m not the guy you need to sell this match too, it’s the rubes. And the rubes probably don’t know shit about a triangle choke. anyway.
